Breathe New Life to Art Objects
Conservation and works of art is the mean that connects us with our past and delivers us to our future
The fundamental need of man to express himself through creation led him to produce the first objects and artefacts that primarily served his everyday needs and secondly served as a mean of self expression and communication. Artefacts that bear anthropological, historical and religious information and at the same time provide cultural and technological evidence of human achievements, have been produced throughout the very existence of man, being the only true connection between us and our humane past.
Preserving and conserving the true nature and the authenticity of each artefact is the ultimate objective of the science of Conservation itself. Professional Conservators are entitled and responsible for preserving and conserving all the information carried by artefacts with minimum intervention in their integrity. Conservators’ main responsibility and concern is on the one hand to take action so as to save and prolong the lifespan of artefacts and on the other hand all the techniques and materials used to be reversible, so if needed they can be removed without interfering in the artefacts’ true nature.
Prior to any conservation action to be undertaken, each artefact is recorded (condition report, photographic and drawing records) and then its current state is examined with non-destructive analysis methods so as to evaluate its condition and to come into a safe conclusion regarding the conservation works that need to be applied.
When the conservation process is completed, a new life is breathed into the object and aiming that through the main principles of preventive conservation, all the information will be perpetually delivered to next generations.
As a Professional and Accredited Conservator, with quite a few years of work experience in a vast range of artefacts and works, I practice conservation respecting and following the Code of Ethics for Professional Conservators.
